This is the lyrics of most viral song of nowadays is Why this kolaveri di. It is an instant hit. Basically it is a song from Tamil movie titled ‘3’ (Moonu), which is written and directed by Aishwarya Dhanush (Rajnikanth’s daughter) starring Shruti Hassan (Kamal Hassan’s daughter) and Dhanush (Aishwarya’s husband). Dhanush got national award for best actor (film ‘Aadukalam’).

These crazy lyrics were penned down by Dhanush. Most of the lyrics are in English, so anyone can understand it easily. It is a song of a boy who has been rejected by a girl. As the lyrics suggests, it is a SOUP SONG (literally meaning failure in Love). While Kolaveri Di means murderous rage. Dhanush has not only penned lyrics but also sung it himself. The music is scored by debutant music composer Anirudh Ravichander.

This song has created a rage among youth, not only in Southern part but in North India also. It is a buzzing topic on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Heartbreak is a common phenomenon among young generation. So it has found a place in heart of youth. Within a week it has got nearly 10 million views on Youtube. I don’t know how many of you have heard this song, circulated under the title ‘Kolaveri’ but it is one song sure to drive you crazy. It is not the complex beats or some technical challenge in rendition – the song has a very simple tune that you catch on very fast. The USP of the apocryphal composition is in fact the Tanglish lyrics. As and when the singer croons, “Why this kolaveri, kolaveri di?” you know that this ‘soup’ song for ‘soup’ boys is going to be a treat.

The lyrics, by Dhanush some critics say are void of the classical words. The inclusion of slangs in lyrics makes it make relatable to the listeners, catches their fancy and is almost an instant hit. The fact that the song is a hit is no fault of anyone, a clever strategy, brilliant marketing etc.

This song being mostly in Tamilised-English and can be understood by most Indians but there are some words and phrases left to explain. Of course there are parts that make no sense like when he calls it a ‘soup song’ for ‘soup boys’ but it is a catchy tune and is ragingly popular in India right now.

Well, we all are hit by “Kolaveri” madness. Recurring news of the Youtube post of the song reaching milestones, Amitabh Bachchan tweeting about it, people going crazy either in favor or being critic of the song. Well perhaps, this can be supported by one reason. I am living in Chennai and listen to same accent everyday so obviously find familiarity with it. A kind of insane or stupid song but definitely catchy. I am listening to it without applying too much mind.
